TLC hosts Moodle Workshop

The first ever facilitator “Train the Trainers” exercises for the soon to be University of Liberia Online
Learning Program (ULOLP) ended on Wednesday. This intense ICT related training exercise of mastering
the MOODLE online Learning Management System took place for three days, from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm,
Monday to Wednesday, November 25 – 27. The goal of the ULOLP is to virtually expand the higher
learning options of the University of Liberia without undergoing new expenses for physical
infrastructure through Online learning. This online learning will be hosted by the MOODLE online
Learning Management System in the Clouds and used to facilitate the UL Online Learning Program. We
hope to start with about 15 classes in a Pilot Program for the early months of 2020 and subsequently
become a full fledge ULOLP in the latter part of 2020.
We are hoping to begin this program with a Blended Online Learning system in place that will involve a
classroom of students engaged in both a face-to-face relationship with their teacher plus an online
component of the classroom activities that will include video lectures and demonstrations plus online
assessment activities to aid their learning comprehension of the class topics for the entire semester.
We were lucky to have direct financial assistance from the USAID Digital Liberia and Electronic
Government Capacity Building Program who provided one of the best Educational Consultants in online
learning technologies to guide and train our faculty in the presence of Dr. Philip Uys, the Director of
Learning Technologies at Charles Stuart University in Australia.
The final stage of this exercise is a formal report to the UL Cabinet on Monday, December 2 about the
many possibilities this program has to offer UL. Their response will determine the future of the
University of Liberia Online Learning Program.
Our UL “Train the Trainers” facilitators who completed the workshop and will initiate the online
training exercises to the rest of our UL Faculty members
